Huxley Good Night Sleep Mask Review
When I first heard about the Korean brand Huxley, I was mostly after their famous Secret of Sahara Oil Essence. I purchased the Good Night Sleep Mask on a whim to hit the free shipping threshold, and I’m so glad I did! While the oil essence ended up being underwhelming for me, I really enjoyed the Good Night Sleep Mask.
Opuntia Ficus-Indica Stem Extract (prickly pear extract), Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane, Trehalose, Water, 1,2-Hexanediol, Opuntia Ficus-Indica Fruit Extract (more prickly pear), Ceramide NP (Ceramide 3), Sodium Hyaluronate, Beta-Glucan , Centella Asiatica Leaf Extract, Perilla Ocymoides Leaf Extract, Paeonia Suffruticosa Root Extract, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Acorus Gramineus Root/Stem Extract, Perilla Frutescens Leaf Extract, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Extract , Hydrogenated Lecithin, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Polysorbate 20, Dimethicone, Dimethiconol, Carbomer, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Propanediol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Alcohol, Dextrin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Polysorbate 80, Tromethamine, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance
Like everything else in the Secret of Sahara line, the Good Night Sleep Mask is centered around prickly pear extract. Huxley sources the seed oil from Morocco and cold-presses it themselves to preserve the oil’s high content of linoleic acid and vitamin E, which nourishes the skin’s moisture barrier. Beyond prickly pear, I see a lot of moisturizing ingredients that I’ve found to be winners: Trehalose, Beta-Glucan, and Sodium Hyaluronate. (The Laneige Water Sleeping Mask has this winning kbeauty moisturizing trio as well.) Centella asiatica, a soothing plant, and ceramide 3, a lipid that helps form the skin barrier, are also present.
Unfortunately, this mask also contains alcohol and fragrance. Similar to other Huxley products I’ve tried, the fragrance - while an absolutely lovely, fresh, non-floral scent - is strong with this one.
The mask comes in a plastic squeeze tube, which I appreciate for cleanliness. All of my other sleeping masks come in jars that require clean fingers and spatulas to operate.
The mask’s texture feels like a gel-to-water, melting on contact with skin. I was so impressed by how quickly it absorbed, leaving no tackiness behind. It layers beautifully with the rest of my routine - no pilling or gumminess. A squeeze or two of the tube is enough to cover your face for the night.
After waking up in the morning and splashing my face with water, I truly felt rejuvenated with this mask. My skin felt firmer, plumper, and dewy - everything I look for in a mask!
The sale price from StyleKorean of $20 was especially fair given the size of the tube (100 mL / over 3 ounces). I think it would be worth even the $36 retail price at Anthropologie (though Korean retailers often have it for cheaper).
If you’ve been curious about trying Huxley or products with prickly pear extract, the Secret of Sahara Good Night Sleep Mask is an excellent place to start. It hydrated my skin overnight, making it feel fresh and dewy in the morning. The gel-to-water texture is also a true pleasure to use. The only downside is its alcohol content and strong fragrance.
