Glow Recipe Avocado Melt Sleeping Mask Review

I’ve been such a fan of Glow Recipe’s Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask that when I heard they were releasing a new avocado-themed mask, I had to have it. I ordered this directly from the brand’s website during their pre-sale because I was just that excited to cosplay as toast (#millennialjoke).

Glow Recipe Avocado Melt Sleeping Mask

74% Avocado

I’ll pay extra for avocado at Chipotle, but what does it do for the face?

Avocado oils and extracts are an excellent emollient and good antioxidant. They come loaded with moisturizing fatty acids such as oleic and linoleic acid. Fatty acids are the building blocks of the skin’s natural oil barrier, which is responsible for keeping the skin plump and hydrated. For a PubMed source on the studied effects of topical avocado oil, read this abstract.

This mask is 74% avocado extract or oil, which is where the creamy texture and moisturizing effects are derived. This mask also contains manuka honey, kaolin clay, and polyhydroxic acids (PHAs). Manuka honey is an antioxidant, anti-bacterial substance. Kaolin is a light clay that absorbs excess sebum without being drying. PHAs are extremely gentle exfoliators, whose large molecular size prevents it from penetrating too deeply into the skin. So overall, one would expect this to be a moisturizing mask with slightly clarifying properties.

My Experience as Toast

The mask has a rich, creamy texture with a very emollient slip. It does not absorb completely, but does not feel suffocating; It feels like a light clay mask is resting on the face. I use it as the last step of my routine, and a little goes a long way. If I used too much, it would pill slightly, but nothing that trial and error could not solve.

While I expected this to have an avocado scent, the fragrance is more like a gentle spring rain. It has a very fresh scent that is perfect for bedtime.

In the morning, I splash my face with water to reveal a plump and dewy complexion. I was really impressed with how moisturizing this was, especially since it’s wintertime, and I live in a desert. This mask definitely feels like a luxury that delivers results.

The mask retails for $45 at Sephora and on Glow Recipe’s website. You get 80 mL of mask for this price, which I think will last at least 6 months of nightly use.

This mask will be a favorite of those with dry to combination skin, who are looking for a deeply moisturizing mask. I enjoyed the rich texture, the fresh scent, and the noticeable dewiness in the morning. I think that Glow Recipe has another hit on their hands!
